Small raptor easy to observe and recognizable by its hovering to locate its prey.
Kestrel may come from the Latin crepo , a dry and repeated sound.
MORPHOLOGY / FLIGHT
Length 30-39 cm - weight: 135 to 315 g - longevity: 15 years
HABITAT
Open spaces (meadows, wasteland, etc) or semi-open areas, from the countryside to big cities like Paris.
FOOD
Mainly small voles. Also lizards and insects (Grasshoppers etc)
NEST
Lays: April-May - 1 to 7 eggs.Incubation: about 1 month.
It does not build a nest, but recuperates old nests, especially of corvids in trees.
Also nests on platforms or cavities In cliffs or buildings
