The mating displays are spectacular. The male climbs high into the sky, falls in a tailspin, straightens up returning on high in order to strike anew.

MORPHOLOGY / FLIGHT
Size : 44-52 cm- weight: 300-600 g – longevity 17 years.
Often spreads its wings in a V, flying quite slowly.
HABITAT
Fields, prairies, wastelands, marshes and moors.
FOOD
Small rodents and small birds.
NEST
Nests on the ground amongst crops such as cereals and rapeseed, and in forestry cuts.
4-6 eggs in April-May, 28-31 days incunation.

Nordic populations are migratory, those of western Europe are partially sedentary.
Winters in Spain.
